Example of a Website’s Development

The exact process varies from client to client, but here’s one example of how I might help you build your website.

  1. Introductions
In this stage, we’ll discuss the problems you’re experiencing with your business and will establish which of my services will best help you grow past them.
  2. First Payment
Once we’ve agreed on the package that works best for you, the first payment will be due (typically 33% of the package price).
  3. Telephone Consultation
In this stage, we’ll discuss specifically what you want your website to do and how we can get your prospects to interact with you. Your company’s history, target audience, favorite colors, logo, fonts, and competitor/peer websites will be discussed.
  4. Content Mockup
As soon as we have a good idea of what you want to accomplish, we’ll work together on the copy (marketing content) to make sure it is accurate, professional, action-enticing and that it speaks properly to your target audience. The content will be put into a basic grey-and-white layout that won’t be pretty to look at, but will be every bit as functional as the final product. Changes to content, navigation, and basic page structure can be easily made during this stage.
  5. Second Payment
Once the content is approved, the next payment (33%) will be due.
  6. Graphic Design
Depending on the package purchased, I will either create a new design from scratch, or install the pre-built theme of your choice. I will perform one round of modifications (if requested).
  7. Changes to Final Draft
You’ll have one more opportunity to request minor, last-minute changes to the site. “Minor” changes generally consist of changes to the text: wording, spelling, paragraphs, etc. If the requested changes are extensive, I’ll let you know whether or not additional payment will be necessary; if no changes are requested, I’ll request your final approval. To ensure that the changes are communicated clearly, all change requests must be submitted via email.
  8. Final Payment
The payment of the remaining balance will be due.
  9. Site Launch!
